Milco won’t increase milk food price

MIlco Lanka Ltd. has decided not to increase the price of milk powder.

Chairman of Milco Lanka Ltd. Sunil Wickremasinghe said that though their was a high demand for Highland products, especially for Highland full cream milk powder, the company had decided not to go for a price hike, although world market prices of milk foods were increasing.

"In keeping with the Mahinda Chinthanaya proposal to increase the nutrition intake among the masses in the rural as well as urban areas, we are promoting the consumption of factory fresh liquid milk among school children, sportsmen /women and pregnant mothers. We are retailing a 900 Ml pack at a mere Rs. 100, 450 pack at Rs 55 and 180 ML chocolate or Vanilla pack at 25 rupees.

"We Produce around 72,000 liters of fresh liquid milk at our two ultra treatment Plants (UTP) in the Polonnaruwa district and market it below the retail market price of Rs 150 or 160. Currently we produce around ten products sicha as Yoghurt, Ice Cream, cheese, ghee, milk powder, butter etc. and market them through around 75,000 franchiser retail markets and super markets in the country.
