ඉන්ධන සහනාධාරයට කැමැතිව මුහුදු යන ධීවරයන්ට මුහුදේදී පහරදීමේ සූදානමක් ඇති බවට තොරතුරු හෙළි වීම නිසා පුත්තලම දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මුහුදු තීරයේ ආරක්ෂාව සඳහා නාවුක හමුදාවේ මුර යාත්‍රා 32ක් මුහුදු තීරය තුළ මේ වන විට ස්ථාපනය කර ඇත.

ඉන්ධන මිල ඉහළ දැමීමට එරෙහිව පුත්තලම දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ ධීවරයන් ඉකුත් 13 වැනිදා සිට මුහුදු යාමෙන් වැළකී වර්ජනයක නිරතවී සිටිති. මේ අතර රජය විසින් ඉන්ධන සහනාධාරයක් ලබා දීමට තීරණය කිරීම සහ එක් දින ධීවර යාත්‍රාවක් සඳහා භූමිතෙල් ලීටර් 30ක් නොමි‍ලේ ලබා දීමට වයඹ පළාත් ධීවර අමාත්‍යංශය කටයුතු කිරීමත් සමගම ඇතැම් ධීවරයින් වර්ජනය අතහැර මුහුදු යාමට පටන් ගෙන තිබේ.

එසේ මුහුදු යන ධීවරයින්ට සංවිධානාත්මක පිරිසක් මුහුදේදී පහර දීමේ සූදානමක් ඇති බවට ලැබි ලැබි තිබූ තොරතුරක් අනුව මුහුදු තීරය තුළ විශේෂ ආරක්ෂක වැඩපිළිවෙළක් යෙදවීමට නාවුක හමුදාව කටයුතු කර ඇත. ඒ අනුව අධිවේගී යාත්‍රා මෙන්ම කුඩා ප්‍රමාණයේ යාත්‍රාද ඇති නාවුක හමුදාවට අයත් යාත්‍රා 32ක් පුත්කලම දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ මුහුදු තීරයේ ආරක්ෂාව සඳහා යොදවා ඇත.

මේ අතර හලාවත නගර සීමාව තුළ පදිංචිව සිටින බෝට්ටු හිමි ධීවරයින් ඊයේ (22) දිනටත් මුහුදු නොගොස් වර්ජනයේ නිරත වන අතර නමුත් බෝට්ටු සහ තෙප්පම් හිමියන් සුපුරුදු ලෙස මුහුදු යාම ආරම්භ කර ඇති බවත් ඉකුත් 22 දා අලුයම දැක ගත හැකි විය.

හලාවත අඹකඳවිල උඩප්පුව ආදී ප්‍රදේශවලත් පුත්තලම සින්නපාඩුව සහ මාම්පුරිය ප්‍රදේශ වලත් මාදැල් කර්මාන්තය සාමාන්‍ය ආකාරයටම සිදුවන බවක් ද දක්නට ඇත.

කල්පිටිය පහ ඒ අවට ධීවරයින් සාමාන්‍ය ආකාරයට මුහුදු යාම ආරම්භ කර ඇති බව කල්පිටිය ‍පොලීසිය අප කළ විමසුමකදී කියා සිටියේය.

Multi-day trawlers still keep off from fishing

Multi-day fishing boats in Chilaw and Negombo continue to refrain from fishing activities, according to the fisheries unions. They said that there was a significant decrease in the number of fishermen that went out to sea yesterday (22). Meanwhile, the single day and multi day fishermen in Chilaw refrained from fishing activities as well.

They said that their associations had decided not to set out to sea until the prices of fuel were brought down.

They also said that the small - scale fishermen in Negombo however engaged in their fishing activities.

Meanwhile Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Rajitha Senaratna told ‘The Island,’ Increase in fuel cost would not affect fish prices as the government had decided to provide fuel subsidy to the fishermen.

The fuel coupon system which was introduced for fishermen to obtain their fuel subsidy would be implemented from next week, he said.

"Though the Negombo and Chilaw fishermen’s protest, Peliyagoda fish market is still receiving the same amount of fish stocks and there has not been any considerable increase in fish prices as some would have thought," Dr. Senaratne said.

Now the situation was returning to normalcy as the fishermen were returning to their fishing jobs from the streets, where they were protesting against the recent fuel price hike, he said.

"It took some time for the fishermen to understand the reality of the fuel subsidy given to them by the government. Some fishermen’s associations that refrained from going to sea during the last few days have already given up their protest," the Minister claimed.

Dr. Senaratne said: "The government spends around Rs. 260 million per month for the fuel subsidy which had been granted to the fishermen, and it works out to Rs. 30,000 million annually".

Dr. Senaratne also said that the community based sustainable fisheries harbours development project - "Let us protect our harbours" would commence on February 25 from the Mirissa fisheries harbour in Matara.

According to the ministry sources a subsidy of Rs. 12 per litre of diesel was being granted for one-day and multi–day fishing boats while fishermen were also to be given a subsidy of Rs. 25 per litre of kerosene. One litre of kerosene will be available at Rs.110 for the boats with kerosene driven engines. There are 3,786 multi-day fishing boats and around 26,000 one day fishing trawlers, of which 21,551 one day fishing vessels with kerosene driven engines. Fuel worth Rs. 30,000 will be provided monthly for 2500 litres of Diesel per multi-day trawler, 1500 litres of diesel for a daily fishing trawler and 250 litres of kerosene per boat will be given.

The government increased the fuel prices on Saturday (11). Price of Petrol went up by 12 Rupees, Diesel by 31 Rupees and Kerosene by 35 Rupees. This was the highest oil price hike in Sri Lankan history.
