ඉන්ධන මිල ඉහළ යැමත් සමඟ විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලයට දැරීමට සිදුව ඇති පාඩුව පියවා ගැනීම සඳහා විදුලිය ගාස්තු ඉහළ නංවනවාද ඉන්ධන සඳහා අධිභාරයක් ඇතිකරනවාද යන්න තීරණය ගැනීම සඳහා විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලය මහජන උපයෝගිතා කොමිසමේ උපදෙස් ලැබෙනතුරු බලා සිටින බව විදුලිබල අමාත්යංශයේ ලේකම් එන්. එම්. සී. µර්ඩිනැන්ඩු මහතා පැවැසීය.
ඉකුත් 12 වැනිදා සිට ඉන්ධන මිල ඉහළ යැමත් සමග විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලයට 2012 වසරේදී රුපියල් කෝටි හත්දහස් දෙසීයක පමණ පාඩුවක් (රුපියල් මිලියන 72,000) විඳීමට සිදුව ඇතැයි ද එය පියවා ගැනීම සඳහා මහජන උපයෝගිතා කොමිසමෙන් උපදෙස් පතා ඇතැයි ද හෙතෙම සඳහන් කළේය.
විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලය 2012 වසරේ ජනවාරි මාසය වන විට ලබා ඇති පාඩුව රුපියල් කෝටි 3200 ක් බවද ඉන්ධන මිල ඉහළ යැමත් සමග විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලයේ වියදම රුපියල් කෝටි 21800 (රුපියල් මිලියන 218000) දක්වා වැඩි වන බවද විදුලිබල අමාත්යංශයේ ලේකම්වරයා සඳහන් කළේය.
විදුලිබල මණ්ඩලය මෙම පාඩුව පියවා ගන්නේ ලංකා බැංකුව සහ මහජන බැංකුව වැනි රාජ්ය බැංකුවලින් ණය ලබාගෙන බවත් විදුලිබල අමාත්යාංශ ලේකම්වරයා පැවැසීය.
හෙතෙම මෙම තොරතුරු අනාවරණය කළේ ඉන්ධන ගාස්තු ඉහළ යැම සම්බන්ධව දැනුවත් කිරීම සඳහා රජයේ ප්රවෘත්ති දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේදී ඊයේ (13 වැනිදා) සවස පැවැති මාධ්ය හමුවේදීය.

Electric shock for consumers; 25% fuel surcharge

More than 78 per cent of electricity consumers will have to pay a minimum 25 per cent fuel surcharge.
Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Chairman Anura Wijepala told The Island yesterday that his institution had been compelled to introduce a fuel adjustment charge in view of escalating oil prices in the world market.
The surcharge for consumers of less than 120 units of electricity a month will be 25 per cent while others will be charged at the rate of 35-40 per cent. However, the industrial sector will have to pay only 15 per cent extra.
Wijepala said that according to a study commissioned by the CEB a vast majority of those who consumed less than 90 units tended to waste electricity supplied at a heavily subsidised rate. He said it was not feasible to sell them electricity at Rs. 3.00 a unit when a litre of diesel with which only four units of electricity could be produced at a cost as much as Rs. 115.
The CEB chief said the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka had been informed of the need for a fuel adjustment charge. It was now up to PUCSL, Chairman Dr. Jayatissa De Costa to make a decision on the matter, he said.
Meanwhile, some CEB officials argue that going by the present losses, a tariff hike of between 10 and 20 per cent is needed for their debt ridden institution to break even.
The Island learns that the CEB is planning to increase the tariff for those who consume less than 90 units per month to minimise losses as they account for 90 per cent of the CEB consumers.

If denied price revisions, CEB, CPC will lose Rs. 150 bn— officials

The Ceylon Electricity Board and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation will incur a loss Rs. 150 billion, unless prices are revised in keeping with increase in the world oil prices, Treasury, Deputy Secretary, Dr. D.M.S Batagoda says.
"The government can manage a loss of between Rs. 50 and 60 billion and go on up to Rs. 100 billion but going beyond that level is dangerous and therefore there had arisen the need for effecting price hikes and fuel adjustments charges, " he told a press briefing held yesterday at the Information Department.
Petroleum Ministry Secretary, Dr. H.M.S Samaratunga said that CPC losses for 2010 stood at Rs. 24 billion, 2011 Rs. 89.8 billion and unless price revisions were effected, the losses for 2012 would be in the region of Rs. 118.5 billion.
Power and Energy Ministry, Secretary, M.M.C Ferdinando said that under the 2010 budgetary allocations Rs. 179.05 billion had been allocated for expenditure, of which Rs. 87 billion was for fuel. He said that with the latest fuel price hikes, the CEB would lose Rs. 70 billion. Therefore the CEB had been compelled to seek the intervention of the Public Utility Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to help revise tariff.
Acting Media Spokesman, Environment Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa had instructed ministers to make sure that the world oil prices would not affect the public and to hold discussions with stakeholders and provide subsidies.
Yapa expressed confidence that commuters would have no problems as buses will be on the roads today –February 14.
