උඩප්පුව කාලි දේවාලයේ අද 23 දා පැවැත්වීමට නියමිතව තිබූ සත්ව පූජාව අත්හිටුවන ලෙස පුත්තලම අතිරේක දිසාවිනිසුරු හා මහෙස්‌ත්‍රාත් අයි. පී. ධම්මිකා ඉලංගසිංහ මහත්මිය නියෝග කළාය.

මුන්දලම පොලිස්‌ ස්‌ථානාධිපති උපපොලිස්‌ පරීක්‍ෂක සුජීව අලවත්ත මහතා වාර්තාවක්‌ මගින් පුත්තලම අධිකරණයට කරුණු ඉදිරිපත් කරමින් කියා සිටියේ ලැබී ඇති බුද්ධි වාර්තා අනුව මෙම බිලි පූජාව පැවැත්වීමෙන් දෙපර්ශ්වයක්‌ අතර ගැටුමක්‌ ඇති වී ගැටලු සහගත තත්ත්වයක්‌ ඇතිවිය හැකි බවයි. එයින් සාමය කඩවීමක්‌ සිදුවිය හැකි බවයි.

මෙම කරුණ පිළිබඳව අවධානය යොමු කළ මහෙස්‌ත්‍රාත්වරිය මෙම වාරණ නියෝගය නිකුත් කළාය.

මුන්නේශ්වරම සමූහ ඊ. සී. ප්‍රනාන්දු

වසර ගණනාවක කාලයක් තිස්සේ උඩප්පුව වීර භද්‍රකාලි අම්මන් කෝවිලේ සත්ත්ව බිලි පූජා පැවැත්වීමේ විශේෂ පූජාව නියමිත අයුරින් අද (23 දා) නොපැවැත්වීමට එම කෝවිලේ පූජක හා භාරකරුවන් පෙරේදා (21 දා) රාත්‍රී පැවැති විශේෂ සාකච්ඡාවකදී තීරණය කර ඇත.

මෙතෙක් කාලයක් එළුවන් හා කුකුළන් ඝාතනය කර එම මසින් බැතිමතුන් වෙත මාංශ ආහාර වේලක් පිරිනැමුන අතර සත්ත්ව ඝාතන නතර කිරීම නිසා බැතිමතුනට නිර්මාංශ ආහාරමය දානයක් අද (23) දහවල් ලබාදෙන බව එහි ප්‍රකාශකයෙක් කීය.

උසස් පොලිස් නිලධාරීන් පැමිණ සත්ත්ව බිලි පූජා පැවැත්වීම නීති විරෝධී බව දැනුම් දීම නිසා තමන් මෙම පියවර ගත් අතර බාරහාර සඳහා සතුන් බිළි දීමට බැතිමතුනට අවසර ලබා නොදෙන අතර බාරහාර වෙනුවෙන් කෝවිලට බාර දෙන සතුන් හෝ බාර නොගන්නා බවත් එම ප්‍රකාශකයා කීය.

කෝවිල් භාරකාරත්වය එළුවන් 25 පමණ ඝාතනය කරනු ලබන අතර බැතිමතුන් ඊට වැඩි සංඛ්‍යාවක් කෝවිල ඉදිරිපිට දී බිලි පූජාවන්ට යොදා ගන්නා නමුත් මේ වසරෙ (23 දා) පැවැත්වෙන උත්සවයේ කෝවිල් පරිශ්‍රය තුළ එවැන්නක් සිදු නොකරන බවත් පූජකවරයෙක් පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

No animal sacrifices at kovil- Court rules

The animal sacrifice which was to be performed today at the Kali Kovil in Udappuwa, Arachchikattuwa was suspended on a court order yesterday (22). Puttalam Additional District Judge Mrs. I.D. Illangasinghe gave the restraining order after having considered a report filed by the Mundalama Police. OIC Mundalama Police IP Sujeewa Alawatta told court that he sought a court order restraining the animal sacrifice at the Udappuwa Kali Kovil to prevent any possible civil commotion.

Meanwhile, the Priests and the trusties of the Udappuwa Weera Badhrakali Amman Kovil had decided to abstain from following the age-old ritual of animal sacrifice and the offering of dana with meat to the devotees and said that they would instead offer a vegetarian meal to the many devotees who visit the Kovil.

The kovil authorities affirmed that their decision, taken on Wednesday (21) was not influenced by any threats but was a result of a discussion they had with police inside the Kovil premises. The spokesman also said that the police prevailed upon them on the legality of the animal sacrifice and that the priests of the Kovil in agreement decided to discontinue the ritual of animal sacrifice.
