Disna Mudalige
A newly built biodiversity centre of the Kodigahakanda forest will be opened on September 25 by Kalutara district Parliamentarian Vidura Wickramanayeka.
The Kodigahakanda forest in the Olaboduwa North Grama Niladhari division in Horana Divisional Secretariat Division is to be declared as a sanctuary under the Forest Conservation Department. It is the first wildlife zone in the district. According to the studies carried out in the forest 133 varieties of plants, 71 bird species, 46 butterfly species, 16 fish species, 16 mammal species, 18 reptile species and 5 amphibians had been recorded.
This centre was built by the Mihithala Mithuro Environment Development Foundation and Kodigahakanda Conservation Community Foundation to conserve the biodiversity of the forest with the participation of the regional community.
