Arrangements are in place to develop 21 sports grounds, stadiums and auditoriums in the Beruwala electorate. All these places will be provided modern technology and facilities.

The government has allocated Rs 750 million for these development programmes, Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne said.

Two sports grounds from the 21 will be provided modern facilities with the aim of developing them to international standards. These grounds and stadiums will benefit residents in Beruwala, he added.

The minister was addressing the foundation stone laying ceremony for an auditorium for Maradana playground, Beruwala recently.

Around Rs 3 million has been spent to construct this auditorium. "We hope to develop Beruwala city as a tourist destination. All measures have been taken to build a seven star hotel and an exhibition centre in Beruwala. These will help to attract tourists to Beruwala and earn foreign exchange," the minister said.

A large number of development projects in Beruwala city have already been completed, he said.

The government has allocated a large amount of money to complete development programmes within the next few years. Arrangements have been made to complete all infrastructure facilities in this electorate by 2013, the minister said.

All large scale development projects proposed to be launched in Beruwala city will begin before the end of next year, Minister Senaratne said.
