The Department of Wildlife Conservation is now planning to conduct a census of leopards found in forests and sanctuaries in Sri Lanka.
After conducting the census of wild elephants, the census of leopards would take place. "Never in Sri Lankan history was a regular or well-planned census taken on leopards that live in our forests," H D Ratnayake, the Director General of Wildlife Conservation Department said.
