එළවළු හා පලතුරු ප්‍රවාහනයේදී ප්ලාස්‌ටික්‌ හෝ ලී සහ කාඩ්බොඩ් ඇසුරුම් භාවිතය අද (01 දා) සිට අනිවාර්ය කොට ඇති බව වෙළෙඳ අමාත්‍යාංශයේ ලේකම් සුනිල් එස්‌. සිරිසේන මහතා "දිවයින"ට පැවසීය.

මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ආර්ථික මධ්‍යස්‌ථාන හරහා එළවළු හා පලතුරු වගා කරන්නන්, බෙදා හරින්නන් හා අලෙවි කරන්නන් දැනුවත් කර ඇති බවද පැවසූ ලේකම්වරයා මෙය කඩ කරන්නන් සඳහා 2003 අංක 9 දරන පාරිභෝගික කටයුතු පිළිබඳ අධිකාරී පනතේ 10(I) ආ(II) වගන්ති ප්‍රකාරව නීතිමය ක්‍රියා මාර්ග ගන්නා බවද පැවසීය.

ප්ලාස්‌ටික්‌ හා ලී ඇසුරුම් භාවිතය දිරි ගැන්වීමේ අරමුණින් සියයට විසිපහක වට්‌ටමක සහනයක්‌ යටතේ සතොස හරහා එම ඇසුරුම් මිලදී ගැනීමටද හැකි බවත් නුසුදුසු ඇසුරුම් හා ප්‍රවාහනය හේතුවෙන් අපතේ යන නිෂ්පාදන සියයට තිහක ප්‍රමාණය අවම කර ගැනීමට හා නැවුම් නිෂ්පාදන වෙළෙඳ පොළට සැපයීමේ අරමුණින් මෙම ඇසුරුම් භාවිතය ප්‍රචලිත කිරීමට පියවර ගන්නා බවත් සිරිසේන මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පැවසුවේය.

Plastic containers for veggies, fruits a must from today

The law demanding that vegetables and fruits be packed and transported in plastic containers comes into forcefrom today (Sept. 1).

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando told ‘The Island’ that this law will minimise damage caused to vegetables and fruit in transportation and in turn benefit the national economy as well as the cultivators and traders.

He also said that the cultivators will be educated on the benefits of using plastic containers and the next step would be for the Consumer Affairs Authority to prosecute those who purposely violate this law.

He said that the Sri Lankan farmers were not educated sufficiently on these methods which have proved to be highly successful in developed countries. Some cultivators and traders were against the move due to political reasons, he said adding that that it would greatly benefit the consumers too.
