Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr.Rajitha Senaratne participated in several fisheries development projects in the Hambantota district. The minister laid the foundation stone to a fisheries community centre and a canteen in the Hambantota fisheries harbour premises. He also laid the foundation stone to a beach park and to a cool storage complex.
He distributed Rs.5.6 million worth fisheries equipment and cool boxes to the Hambantota district fisheries community and 57 cheques of the Diyawara Sawiya loan scheme to fisheries women.
"Measures are in place to modernize the Hambantota fisheries harbour. We have allocated Rs.98 million for development activities in Hambantota through the International Funds for Agricultural Development (IFAD) project and we have spent Rs.82 million on those development activities",the minister said.
