Japan assists Kilinochchi water scheme
Japanese ambassador Nobuhito Hobo handing over the note verbale to Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
The Japanese government announced its concurrence of providing assistance to water supply for the Kilinochchi water supply scheme and to purchase well drilling equipment and spare parts to drill hand pump wells in settlement areas in the Northern Province.
Japanese ambassador Nobuhito HOBO handed over the Note Verbale to Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, at the ministry at Battaramulla recently.
The project is consequent to a request made by the National Water Supply and Drainage Board (NWS&DB) to the Japanese embassy under the guidance of Minister Deinesh Gunawardena for immediate requirement of drinking water in the Northern Province. The Japanese government allocated Rs 260 million to the Sri Lankan government. The NWS&DB has taken steps to facilitate the related activities and ensure a smooth implementation of the project to benefit the people who are living in the Northern Province.
