දකුණු පළාත ඇතුළු පළාත් කිහිපයකට බලපෑ දරුණු වැසි කුණාටු තත්ත්වය හේතුවෙන් මේ වන විට පුද්ගලයන් දහනවදෙනකු මියගොස්‌ හතළිස්‌ තුන්දෙනකු අතුරදන්ව තවත් පුද්ගලයන් 42 දෙනකු තුවාල ලබා ඇතැයි ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්‌ථානයේ සහකාර අධ්‍යක්‍ෂ ප්‍රදීප් කොඩිප්පිලි මහතා සඳහන් කළේය.
මෙහිදී වැඩිම මරණ සංඛ්‍යාව වැලිගම මැතිවරණ කොට්‌ඨාසයෙන් වාර්තා වී තිබෙන අතර දරුණු කුණාටු තත්ත්වයට ගොදුරුවීමෙන් එම ප්‍රදේශයෙන් ධීවර රැකියාව සඳහා මුහුදු ගොස්‌ සිsටි ධීවරයන් දහතුන්දෙනකු මරණයට පත්ව ඇත.
තෙදිනක්‌ පුරා ඇදහැළුණු අධික වර්ෂාව හා කුණාටු තත්ත්වය හමුවේ ඇති වූ ගංවතුර හේතුවෙන් නුවරඑළිය, බදුල්ල, කිලිනොච්චිය හා යාපනය යන දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌කයන්හි අවතැන් වූ පවුල් 380 ක්‌ මේ වන විට සහන කඳවුරු හයක රැඳී සිටින බව ද ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්‌ථානය පවසයි.
වැසි කුණාටුවත් සමඟ ගස්‌ කඩා වැටීම ආදිය හේතුවෙන් මාතර දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌කයේ 426 ක්‌ සහ ගාල්ල දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌කයේ 169 ක්‌ ඇතුළු නිවාස 603 කට පූර්ණ හානි සිදුව ඇති අතර අර්ධ වශයෙන් හානි සිදුව ඇති නිවාස ගණන 444 කි.
පවතින තත්ත්වය හමුවේ මේ වන විට අදාළ ප්‍රදේශයන්හි ආපදාවට ගොදුරුව සිsටින සමස්‌ත පවුල් සංඛ්‍යාව 12691 ක්‌ වේ.
මෙහිදී මරණයට පත් වූ එක්‌ පුද්ගලයකු වෙනුවෙන් රුපියල් 15,000 බැගින් දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌ ලේකම්වරුන් හරහා අදාළ පවුල්වල ඥතීන්ට ලබාදීමට රජය පියවර ගෙන තිබෙන බව ද ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්‌ථානය සඳහන් කරයි.
එයට අමතරව හානි වූ නිවාස යළි පිළිසකර කර ගැනීමට හා අවතැන්ව සිටින පුද්ගලයනට පිසූ ආහාර ලබාදීම සඳහා අවශ්‍ය මූල්‍ය ප්‍රතිපාදන රජය දැනටමත් අදාළ දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌ ලේකම්වරුන් වෙත යවා තිබේ.
වැසි කුණාටුවට හසුවී ගස්‌ කඩා වැටීම හේතුවෙන් මෙම පළාත්හි මාර්ග රැසකම වාහන ධාවනයට බාධා ඇති වී තිබෙන අතර විදුලි කණුවලට හානි වීමෙන් විදුලිය සැපයුම ද ඇණහිට ඇත.
එහිදී වැඩිම හානිය මාතර හා ගාල්ල යන දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌කවලට සිදුව තිබෙන අතර විදුලිය ඇනහිටීම හේතුවෙන් එම ප්‍රදේශවල භූමිතෙල් හිඟයක්‌ මතුව තිබෙන බව ද වාර්තා වේ.
පවතින තත්ත්වය හමුවේ එම ප්‍රදේශවල ජන ජීවිතය දැඩි ලෙස අඩාළ වී තිබෙන අතර වෙළෙඳසල් රැසක ශීතකරණ අක්‍රීය වීම හේතුවෙන් අලාභ රැසක්‌ ද සිදුව තිබේ.

Flood havoc: 19 dead, 43 missing

The Disaster Management Centre (DMC) reported 19 deaths and 43 missing in the rain and flood havoc during the last three days, while the number of those injured was 41. According to the DMC report around 53,773 persons belonging to 13,337 families have been affected, due to the bad weather.
A total of 1,603 persons belonging to 380 families have been displaced and relocated in shelters.
Six hundred and thirty houses were totally damaged and 5,094 houses partially damaged in the cyclonic winds accompanying the rain.
Around 3,436 people have been affected in the Batticaloa district. These people belong to 954 families. They are from the Koralal Pattu South, Eravur Pattu, Porativu Pattu, Eravur town and Manamunai West Divisional Secretariat.
According to the DMC, the Southern coast in the Matara district was the worst affected. The report said that 13,430 people from 2,686 families were affected in Matara while 426 houses were fully damaged and another 2,141 houses partially damaged.
Electricity supply was disrupted in Matara with several roads blocked by fallen trees and other debris. Road cleaning and power line restoration are in progress with the assistance of the Army and Pradesiya Sabhas.
In the Badulla district, 42 families with 206 persons were affected. They were evacuated to the Rawana Ella Temple. Irrigation officials were forced to open sluice gates and warn villagers of increasing water levels in streams following overflowing reservoirs in Moneragala, Anuradhapura and Batticalo.
In the Ampara district, flood affected 18,374 persons from 4,875 families, mostly in the Pottuvil area.
The government has deployed Security Forces personnel to assist officials to expedite relief efforts to the affected in every district.
The Security Forces are prepared to face any emergency situation that may arise due to the prevailing weather condition.
The Army had assisted in clearing many roads blocked due to fallen trees, while the Navy had assisted in evacuating people who were stranded due to floods with the use of Navy boats.
Army personnel have been deployed to areas affected in Matara and Galle districts to provide relief during an emergency.
The badly affected districts are Batticaloa, Moneragala, Anuradhapura, Jaffna, Galle, Hambathota, Matara, Badulla, Kilinochchi, Ratnapura, Ampara, Nuwareliya, Mullaitivu and Kalutara.
Dry rations are distributed by the Divisional Secretariat to affected families. Some affected people are living with friends and relatives.
Meanwhile, Meteorological Department Meteorologist Meril Mendis said rain can be expected in the next 24 hours in the Western and South coastal lines in certain areas.
In the evening, thunder showers can be expected in many parts of the country. However, he said the weather will clear by tomorrow.
