Acting on information provided by SLN Intelligence, police commandos arrested three persons at Pavatcholai in the Kumburupiddi forest reserve for clearing the jungle. The suspects are members of a gang running a major timber racket.
An STF spokesman told ‘The Island’ that the suspects, along with a large stock of logs worth about Rs. 900,000 had been handed over to the Trincomalee Forest Office. The official said that they had been engaged in the timber racket for a long time, under the very noses of officials. (SF)
