Wild elephant dying of a ‘hakka patas’ injury


A wild elephant aged about 20 years is starving to death in the Flood Plain National Park due to a serious injury in its mouth caused by an illegal explosive device called “hakka patas” laid by poachers to kill wild boar. A veterinary surgeon of the Wildlife Conservation Department Dr. W.A.Dharmakirthi said the jumbo might have sustained damage to its internal organs as well. A team of wildlife conservation officers under Dr, Dharmakirthi who rushed to the scene on information received from the villagers is providing treatment.
