In an effort to further accelerate development of the Northern Province, Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa has directed officials to conduct a survey to identify work lagging behind which needed urgent attention in association with the Jaffna University authorities.
The Accelerated Northern Rehabilitation project coming under the purview of the Economic Development Ministry will conduct this survey with the assistance of students attached to the Vavuniya Campus of the Jaffna University, said Project Director S.K. Liyanage. Liyanage who is also director of the 'Yali Pubudamu' project added that this survey would be extremely helpful for the success of the government endeavour to promote sustainable development in the Northern Province.
A US$ 65 million has been allocated for the development of infrastructure in the Northern Province under the Accelerated Northern Rehabilitation project. Already, 654 projects have been launched under this programme and of them 351 have been completed and vested with the public.
