මෙවර මහ කන්නයේදී වී අලෙවි මණ්‌ඩලය ගොවීන්ගෙන් වී මෙටි්‍රක්‌ ටොන් 20,512 ක්‌ මිලදී ගෙන ඇතැයි සමුපකාර හා අභ්‍යන්තර වෙළෙඳ අමාත්‍යාංශය පවසයි.

මේ සඳහා රජය රුපියල් මිලියන 550 ක්‌ වැය කර ඇතැයි ඇමැති ජොන්ස්‌ටන් ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා පැවැසීය.

අම්පාර, කිලිනොච්චිය, පොළොන්නරුව, අනුරාධපුරය හා ත්‍රිකුණාමලය යන දිස්‌ත්‍රික්‌කවල ගොවීන්ගෙන් මෙසේ වී මිලදී ගෙන ඇතැයි ද අමාත්‍යවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළේය.

PMB buys 20,512 tonnes of paddy

The Paddy Marketing Board (PMB) has purchased 20,512 tonnes of paddy at a cost of Rs. 550 million this Yala season. This is the highest amount of paddy purchased from all district.

Minister of Cooperatives and Internal Trade Johnston Fernando said that the PMB purchased Nadu at Rs. 28 a kilo and Samba at Rs. 30, which are the guaranteed prices for the two varieties of paddy.

He said that the opposition had claimed that those prices were paid by the government only through the television, but the opposition could find out the truth if they visited the PMB purchasing centres throughout the country. The paddy farmers were never sent back empty handed, he said.

Minister Fernando said that bulk of the paddy purchases were from the Ampara, Kilinochchi, Polonnaruwa and Trincomalee districts.
