President Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the authorities to name the North Central Province as soya beans export zone. The move is to produce the national requirement of soya and to export the stuff as value added productions, such as, soya oil and animal fodder.
It was revealed at the Anuradhapura District Agriculture Committee meeting on Tuesday. During the Yala season, soya was cultivated in 3,000 hectares and during the current Maha season, soya has been grown in 4,600 hectares in addition to Mahaweli ‘H’ area cultivation.
