Nine irrigation schemes in EP renovated

The Economic Development Ministry has drawn up plans to renovate nine major irrigation schemes in the Eastern province in the programme to reconstruct conflict affected areas under the Negenahira Navodaya development programme, Economic Development Ministry Additional Secretary Nihal Somaweera said.

The Additional Secretary told the Daily News that 90 percent of the work has been completed by now.

The estimated cost for each irrigation project are the Peraru scheme - Rs 1,500 million,

Morawewa-Jica Rs 225 million, Allai Rs 385 million, Rugam Rs 340 million, Pulukunawa Tank Rs 400million, Gal Oya Navodaya Rs 25 million, Maduru Oya Rs 28,400 million, Gal Oya Navodaya Rs 1,420 million, Rampukkan Oya Rs 2,500 million, Borapola Tank Rs 40million and Heda Oya Rs 5,000 million.

Two irrigation schemes are also being renovated under the Gal Oya scheme. One is a major scheme and the other a minor, he said.
