A fire in the Hantane Hills in Kandy late evening on Friday has destroyed over 10 acres of forest.The forest fire was first noticed by people around 6.30 p.m. The burnt area is mostly grassland and the dry conditions had worsened due to the prevailing drought and the dry winds.
Despite the arrival of the Kandy Municipal Fire Brigade, their task was said to be made more difficult by the steep terrain coupled with darkness.
