President Mahinda Rajapaksa will inaugurate "One Project - One Village" programme under the Gama Naguma project from Bandaragama in the Kalutara district.
This project will be held concurrently in every Grama Niladhari division island wide on the same day.
The President in his budget speech for 2012 put forward several proposals aimed at rural development.
One of these proposals come under the purview of Economic Development Ministry was "One project - one village" programme.
Under this programme Rs. One Million has been allocated to implement a development project in every Grama Niladhari division island wide.
Priority projects are selected based on the proposals by Pradesheeya Sabha members, Provincial Council members and district parliamentarians through Janasaba and Divisional coordination committees.
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa participated at district level meetings to select proposals and allocate funds for "One Project - One village" Development project in every district.
The projects will cover minor irrigation schemes, drinking water projects, village roads, extension of rural electricity, development of school facilities including provision of toilets, pre-schools, development of dhamma schools, health clinics, maternal clinics, development of children's play grounds and other playgrounds, weekly fairs, developing service centres for small industries and traditional industries, co-operative development, modernizing paddy and fertilizer storage facilities, environmental protection and forest conservation etc.
About14019 villages island wide will be developed under this programme and Rs. 140,190 million has been allocated for that programme.
