Carcass of massive whale trapped on ship’s bow
A freak and unique incident involving a massive dead whale and a European container vessel was witnessed on Tuesday (20) morning at the Colombo Port.
Satyajit Satharasinghe, who was a witness to this freak incident, said that the dead whale was trapped on the bulbous bow of the container ves sel and was discovered when the vessel was docked.
He said that the dead whale, the size of an elephant, was later towed to the outer seas of the Colombo Port for disposal, by tug boats of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA).
Satharasinghe added that there a was possibility of the carcass rolling back onto the shores "somewhere" close by.
