මහනුවර නගරයේ මාර්ග අවහිර කරමින් මුදල් හම්බ කිරීම සඳහා නගරයේ වීදිවල රාත්රි කාලයේ මෝටර් රථ "රේස්" පැවැත්වීම අමනෝඥ ක්රියාවකැයි අස්ගිරි පාර්ශ්වයේ අතිපූජ්ය මහානායක උඩුගම ශ්රී බුද්ධරක්ත ස්වාමීන්ද්රයාණන් වහන්සේ පැවසූහ.
මහනුවර නගරයේ වීදිවල රාත්රි කාලයේ මෝටර් රථ ධාවන තරගයන් පැවැත්වීමට ගෙන තිබෙන තීරණය ඉතාම නුසුදුසු ක්රියාවකැයි අතිපූජ්ය මහානායක ස්වාමීන්ද්රයන් වහන්සේ පැවසූහ.
උන්වහන්සේ එසේ පැවසුවේ පොලිස්පති එන්. කේ. ඉලංගකෝන් මහතා හමුවූ අවස්ථාවේදීය.
පොලිස්පති එන්. කේ. ඉලංගකෝන් මහතා අදහස් දක්වමින් පොලිස් සේවය විධිමත් ලෙස පවත්වාගෙන යැම සඳහා පොලිස් නිලධාරීන්ට පුහුණුවක් ලබාදීමේ වැඩපිළිවෙළක් ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමට පියවර ගෙන තිබෙන බව කීවේය.
අපරාධවලට සම්බන්ධ සැකකරුවන් අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම හා අපරාධ සම්බන්ධ පරීක්ෂණ පැවැත්වීම සඳහා උපරිම පියවර ගන්නා බවද පොලිස්පතිවරයා පැවසීය.
දැනට පොලිස් සේවයේ නියුක්ත සංඛ්යාව 81,000 ක් පමණ වන බවද හෙතෙම පැවසීය.
මල්වතු පාර්ශ්වයේ අතිපූජ්ය මහානායක තිබ්බටුවාවේ ශ්රී සිද්ධාර්ථ සුමංගල ස්වාමීන්ද්රයන් වහන්සේ බැහැදැකීමට ද පොලිස්පති එන්. කේ. ඉලංගකෝන් මහතා ගියේය.
ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ නියෝජ්ය පොලිස්පති එච්. එන්. බී. අඹන්වල, නියෝජ්ය පොලිස්පති ජී. බී. පෙරමුණේ සහ මහනුවර ජ්යෙෂ්ඨ පොලිස් අධිකාරි කිත්සිරි ගනේගම යන මහත්වරුද සහභාගි වූහ.
මහානායක ස්වාමීන්ද්රයන් වහන්සේ උභය මහා විහාරයේ දී බැහැදැකීමට පෙර ශ්රී දළදා සමිඳුන් වැඳ පුදා මහා සංඝරත්නය වෙත මහා දානයක් පිරිනැමීමටද පොලිස්පති ඉලංගකෝන් මහතා සහභාගි විය.

Asgiriya Prelate opposes night racing

KANDY – Most Venerable Mahanayake of the Asgiriya Chapter, Udugama Sri Buddharakkitha Thera expressed his opposition to the motor races to be conducted on the streets of Kandy on Friday (16) and Saturday (17) nights.
The prelate said that a motor race in the sacred city of Kandy would cause immense inconvenience to residents.
Even the transportation of a patient to a hospital would be hampered, he said, adding that even during the day the public were inconvenienced as sand bags and other barriers obstructed the pedestrians using the pavements.
Such sports were not suitable for the Kandy town, he said, adding that if anyone wanted those events they could have them outside the city.
The prelate said, "I asked the President whether he was aware of such a night motor car race in the Kandy town and he answered in the negative. Similarly, the Government Agent of Kandy said he was not aware. Only the Chief Minister said he had given the consent because a similar motor car race had been held on the streets of Kandy the previous year.
But, permission should not be given to such motor racing on the streets to make money at the expense of the public," the Thera stressed.
