The Power and Energy Ministry has raked in Rs. 17.7 million from raids against power pirates in February, this year.
The raids were carried out by the Special Unit set up for the task by the CEB.
Of the Rs. 17.7 million raked in, Rs. 3.198 million came by way of court fines. The latest raid was carried out during the last week of February.
According to Power and Energy Ministry, in February alone, 331 persons had been nabbed obtaining electricity illegally.
Ministry sources said that due to power piracy, the CEB incurred heavy financial losses.
The Ministry has called on the public to report fraudulent activities, especially meter tampering and illegal tapping of electricity – to the Special Investigations Unit on telephone No. 2422259.
