Sri Lanka Western Province Passenger Transport Authority has streamlined the process of nabbing private bus conductors who do not issue tickets to commuters.
Certain unscrupulous private bus conductors are reported to be cheating passengers by not issuing bus tickets to commuters, an authority spokesman said.
The authority special inspection squad had nabbed 195 private bus conductors who evaded giving bus tickets to commuters last month in the Western Province.
If a conductor is nabbed the first time for not issuing bus tickets to commuters he will be fined Rs. 250. If he is caught for the second time for not issuing tickets, he will be fined Rs.500.
The fine will be increased to Rs.1,000 if a conductor is caught for not issuing ticket for the third time.
If it is the fourth time, bus owners will be called to the authority and will be advised on rules and regulations pertaining to passenger transport and the authority will finally warn them that licence will be canceled if a bus conductor further evaded giving tickets to commuters.
